INDRA, a company that specializes in advanced water treatment systems, was founded by Amrit Om Nayak and Krunal Patel in 2017. The startup recently secured $4 million in funding during a Series A round. The investment was spearheaded by Mela Ventures and Swiss-based cleantech innovator Emerald Technology Ventures. Peak Sustainability Ventures and The Climate Angels were also involved in the fundraising round for the startup’s inventive water treatment solutions. INDRA tackles the intricate issues of water treatment in industrial and sewage settings using its unique patented electro-chemical oxidation and coagulation method. Ionic reactions are used in this technology to efficiently eliminate a wide range of pollutants from wastewater, such as unwanted substances, heavy metals, suspended solids, phosphorus, fats, oil, grease, pathogens, and dissolved organics. The company’s unique water treatment system is easy to use and requires significantly less space than other options, while also being able to recover up to 99% of the treated water. INDRA has processed more than one billion liters of water, which could result in a 75% decrease in carbon emissions using their water treatment facilities. Additionally, it is asserted that the startup can save significantly on space, reduce sludge production, decrease the need for human involvement, and cut life cycle costs by 35%. Which industries is the startup specifically targeting? INDRA mainly concentrates on controlling industrial waste from industries like textiles, steel manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals, as well as sewage from hotels and commercial buildings. The startup’s influence spans various sectors where proper water treatment is crucial, highlighting the strategic importance of funding for its success.
