A new grocery store in Carlinville is being planned and recently got a boost from the USDA Rural Development office. USDA Rural Development State Director Pam Monetti was in town recently to announce $390,000 in Rural Energy for America Program or REAP funding.
She says the money will be used to help purchase and install a 316kW a solar array.
She says Carlinville, like many small communities, have lost their grocery stores. This will be a co-op, located at the former Rural King store. Information on USDA Rural Development programs can be found at rd.usda.gov/il.
