Electricity generation from solar energy in Texas is set to exceed coal-fired generation for the first time in 2026, according to forecasts. Solar power’s contribution to ERCOT’s electricity mix has grown from 4% to 12% from 2021 to 2025, while coal’s share has declined. Texas is also leading in national solar capacity expansion.
