Linn County is one of 24 Iowa counties designated as primary natural disaster areas due to the recent drought by USDA Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack in a letter to Gov. Kim Reynolds.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, many eastern Iowa counties were heavily damaged by drought during the growing season.

Farmers and farm Operations in primary counties are eligible for Farm Service Agency (FSA) emergency loan assistance, provided they meet the eligibility requirements. Farmers have eight months from the disaster declaration to apply for emergency loans.
