If you bought chicken nuggets from Wegmans recently and stored them in your freezers, you might want to reconsider consuming them.
Wegmans, in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, is issuing a public health alert for its frozen chicken nuggets due to bone fragment contamination, according to the USDA.
The agency and Wegmans issued this alert for frozen, fully cooked Wegmans breaded chicken breast nuggets to ensure consumers are aware this product should not be consumed.
The reason why this is a public health alert and not a recall is because the chicken nuggets are no longer available to be purchased.
The products affected include 46-oz. plastic packages containing “Wegmans FAMILY PACK FULLY COOKED Breaded Chicken Breast with Rib Meat” and a sell by date of Aug. 26, 2025, located on the back of the packaging next to the barcode in the lower right corner.
The chicken nuggets were distributed to stores in New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., Virginia and North Carolina.
The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service found out about the issue after Wegmans received multiple complaints from consumers about there being bone fragments in the frozen chicken nuggets.
No injuries have been reported to date.
Consumers who have these products in their freezers are being advised to throw them out or return them to their place of purchase.
Those who have questions or concerns about the public health announcement can contact Wegmans Food Markets at 1-855-934-3663 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. or Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. ET.
