Greenfields adds that the USDA is one more resource for co-ops and small businesses in rural areas to turn to get a project off the ground.

Allamakee-Clayton Electric Cooperative received a $2 million loan through the Rural Economic Development Loan and Grant program to help fund a pass-through loan to Nexus Cooperative. This project will purchase equipment and expand an existing feed mill facility in Elgin, creating five new jobs and promoting economic development in northeast Iowa.

University of Northern Iowa received almost $200,000 through the Rural Cooperative Development Grants program to provide technical assistance. It will help establish employee-owned cooperatives to support rural small businesses and promote economic development in rural areas.

The City of Postville received almost $50,000 through the Economic Impact Initiative Grants  program to help purchase a vehicle and related equipment to support law enforcement K9 operations. This project also promotes safety of law enforcement personnel and residents of this rural Allamakee County community.
