BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) – The U.S. Department of Agriculture is offering approximately $12 million in grants to repair affordable housing rural West Virginia communities.

The USDA is seeking applications from eligible organizations to repair or rehabilitate homes, rental properties or cooperatives for rural residents with low or very low incomes. The funds can be used to repair foundations or roofs, replace electrical wiring or heating systems, support accessibility features and purchase construction materials.

The announcement was made Monday as Rural Development celebrates Homeownership Month and the importance of expanding access to safe homes in rural America.

Qualified applicants include most state or local government entities, federally recognized Native American tribes, nonprofits and faith-based organizations.

Pre-applications for grants must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. on July 29.
